Academic Requirements

As either an incoming freshman or transfer, it’s essential that you meet the academic criteria for admission. This includes making sure your grade point average meets or exceeds Texas A&M’s average, attaining excellent SAT/ACT scores, and producing strong essays.

The university does not discriminate against any applicant based on race, color, sex, age, national origin, religious commitment or disability. All applicants should fill out their applications truthfully and accurately as this information is used to determine a student’s eligibility for admission. If an applicant doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, they will not be admitted into a degree program.

To be admitted to a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, students must earn 24 earned semester credit hours by the end of their junior or senior year. Those who have earned less may be admitted conditionally upon successful completion of additional coursework and payment of an application fee that is nonrefundable.

As a high school senior, you must fill out the admissions application and provide official transcripts from all colleges attended. Furthermore, your SAT or ACT scores and GPA must also be submitted.

A strong SAT or ACT score can make you stand out from the competition and give your application more attention from admissions staff, potentially increasing your chances of acceptance to Texas A&M.

You can improve your SAT or ACT scores by taking challenging courses in high school, setting a goal to have a certain GPA, and working hard in the classroom. Doing this will prepare you for college – though remember that GPA remains the most significant factor when applying.

Make sure you receive excellent academic preparation through a rigorous course load, extracurricular activities and volunteering experiences. Not only will these help you meet the academic requirements for admission but they also demonstrate your dedication and seriousness as an individual to studying.

It’s not uncommon for people to become overwhelmed by the admissions process, particularly for students applying to highly sought-after universities like Texas A&M. It can also be easy to forget how important finding a college that best fits your individual needs and goals is.

Credit by Examination

If you have completed college-level courses outside the classroom and wish to apply them towards your degree, examination credit may be available. Students can take CLEP, AICE and AP exams in order to fulfill this requirement.

Exams such as AP or CLEP can be taken to fulfill the admissions requirements for Texas A&M University. These assessments are administered by a national organization and accepted by most colleges and universities.

The College Board offers over 33 CLEP exams in a range of subject areas. By successfully passing one of these exams, students may earn up to 45 credit hours of college-level course credit. To determine if an exam is suitable for your degree plan, speak with an academic advisor.

Students may receive college credit for passing a recognized certification or licensure exam in certain fields. To receive these credits, the student must pass the test and provide documentation of successful completion to faculty within that discipline.

Once your academic advisor has given their approval, you can complete a Challenge Examination application form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office. Please remember that this must be done prior to beginning of classes at A&M.

Once accepted to A&M University, your ranking will be determined based on your high school grades and scores. If your scores don’t quite make it into the top ten percent, review admits may still be available; these take longer but provide an option if automatic admission does not apply to you.

In addition to submitting an admissions application, applicants from high schools in Texas must submit their highest test score from either an SAT or ACT date within five years of planned enrollment. You can upload these scores into the Applicant Information System and we will use them to evaluate your application for admission.

Non-ranking high schools must submit the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) and a copy of their high school transcript to our office for consideration. We will review these documents to determine your eligibility for automatic admissions, assigning a rank based on your highest test score from an SAT or AP test date.

Additionally, take into account applying for scholarships through your university and searching outside scholarships as well.

Applying for the FAFSA is easy; just visit fafsa.gov and speak with a representative for more details on the process.
